Coming early 2019, fans will be able to get their hands on a one-of-a-kind collaboration between VETEMENTS and Oakley. VETEMENTS was started in 2014 as a French clothing and footwear "design collective" and teased their Oakley collaboration during the SS19 fashion show in Paris. These sunglasses are currently available for pre-order online and will be released in the spring.
We'd like to know your thoughts on this new Oakley collaboration. With many celebrities turning sports and performance sunglasses into high-fashion, do you think Oakley will continue to do brand collaborations like this one? Or is this a seasonal fad that will soon end?
We're curious to hear your thoughts! Be sure to vote and interact with us on social media.

]]>Believe it or not, if you live in New England, you reside in one of the most haunted locations in the world. Given our long history, it's no doubt why so many spooky tales haunt us during the Halloween season. We're picking our favorite haunted place in each state, for a total of 6 New England attractions. Are you brave enough to visit one?
Looks familiar, huh? The Gold Brook Bridge was built in 1844, but is more commonly referred to as “Emily’s Bridge” due to a ghost named Emily who is believed to haunt it. Paranormal activity on Emily’s Bridge includes freaky sounds, such as banging, footsteps, and the tightening of ropes. Some folks have reported seeing a white apparition appear in front of them as well as scratch marks on their vehicles.

The 200-year-old Kennebunk Inn has two former employees - Cyrus, an inn clerk who died in the mid-20th century and lets his spirit self be known via falling wine glasses and other objects that mysterious take flight, and Silas Perkins, a night watchman and published poet. Haunted activity include glasses falling off shelves, other items moving, and strange noises that some claim sound like voices.

Built in 1691, this house is now a museum and historical society—but that’s not why visitors flock here. It’s apparently a hotspot for paranormal activity. Investigators report picking up voices and sounds, and being pushed and slapped by the less friendly entities in the home.
More info: http://www.westernrihistory.org/paine_house.aspx
Looks like a normal house, right? Wrong! This seemingly normal home is the real life location behind the terrifying film "A Haunting in Connecticut", where investigators say that events "much, much scarier than any movie" had occurred. The film claimed that it is based on the "true story" of paranormal activities experienced by the family of Carmen Reed Snedeker in 1986.

Just by the looks of this castle we get chills! Once known as The Broads, this castle the former summer estate of railroad magnate Benjamin Ames Kimball. Many have reported Paranormal activity, cold spots shadow people and other strange occurrences inside the castle. Reports of doors locking and unlocking by themselves, have been reported, things disappearing, books being pulled off shelves, and plants being knocked over.

"Lizzie Borden took an axe,
And gave her mother forty whacks;
When she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one."
The story of Lizzie Borden is infamous and refers to the gruesome axe murders of her father and stepmother in 1892. Lizzie was the prime suspect in the killings, but was acquitted despite the evidence against her. The house now runs as a themed bed and breakfast that has been preserved as it was in 1892. It is also said to be haunted by the spirits of both Lizzie and her alleged victims.

]]>Why go to a party store and spend $$$ on a costume when you could piece together an outfit from your closet?
WE’RE HERE TO HELP! Grab your favorite pair of sunglasses (or get a new pair from us) and get ready to raid your closets…
The man who made round sunglasses popular, you’ll want to pick up a pair similar to these Ray-Bans: RB3447N.
Clothing: simple jean jacket and white t-shirt. Bonus points if it’s a New York City graphic tee.
And I said, "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
The perfect pair of sunglasses to go with this iconic look: Tom Ford Alistair shades. The 60s inspired cat eye frame replicates the style of the world renowned fashion icon herself.
Clothing: LBD- little black dress, black arm gloves, chunky pearl necklace (costume jewelry of course), and we can’t forget… a tiara to top it all off! Alright, chance of you having a chunky necklace and tiara in your home already are slim but hey, you never know!
This one might need some DIY crafting, but it’s all about the wild styles. Grab your favorite pair of funky sunglasses, like these Tory Burch shades or the Prada 27NS.
The sunglasses are definitely the focal point of your Elton John inspired outfit. Next, choose a complimenting outfit, like an all-white ensemble pictured above. Don’t be afraid to rip up a feather boa or glue something sparkly on your outfit.
Jackie O is the definition of #AmericanIcon. Now most of us girls don’t have a Chanel suit hanging around in our closet, but it’s easy to recreate this look using business clothes/raiding a second-hand store. Don’t forget your fake pearls, gloves, and pill box hat!
For sunglasses, Ray-Ban famously coined a pair of sunglasses after the icon herself. Check them out here.
Simple: black on black on black. Black turtle neck paired with a black leather jacket, and black sunglasses. Luckily Ray-Ban has a style named after this icon as well! Shop the Andy look here.
Oh, of course, you can’t forget your blonde wig!

]]>When hiking is mentioned to beginners, they sometimes feel intimated. Why so? Phrases like "I'm too out of shape" or "I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up" come to mind. The reality is, there really are no rules when it comes to hiking. Don't put limitations on yourself. Start off at a pace that works for you and gradually build up to what you feel comfortable with. We're here today to provide you with a list of quick tips and tricks to help get you started.
1. Set your pace. Keep in mind a typical timing to use is about one hour for a two mile trail. Elevation is an important factor too so don't push yourself too far too soon. We recommend starting as early as possible. Popular trails can get congested quickly, but it's also nice having some company, too!
2. Find your hiking buddy. Experiencing the outdoors by yourself can be a freeing experience, but it's always safe to have a partner with you at all times. Even better if that person has experience with hikes and can share some tips, gear, etc. with you. If you decide to go solo, always let a friend know where and when you'll be hiking. It could save your life.
3. Do your research. Find trails suitable for beginners. Trails.com is a great resource as well as hiking forums online. You can also search on Facebook for local hiking groups. Once you have selected a trail, obtain a map of the area and review reports and data. There are some excellent online resources available.
4. Gear? Well, the nice thing about hiking is that you can get away with wearing items you may already have. Workout and active clothes are better than the regular tee with jeans look. We recommended sneakers or trail runners, but hiking boots may come in handy too... depending on what trail you are tackling.
5. Backpack, backpack! Whether it's a quick day trip or a longer journey, having a backpack is crucial. Always bring more water than you anticipate having, as well as snacks. Also, weather conditions can always change. Pack a lightweight rain coat and perhaps an extra layer just in case.
6. Other essentials. Navigation (map/compass), extra clothing, extra and food, first aid kit, flashlight/headlamp, and sun protection. Don't forget these items! They can make the difference between a safe and enjoyable hike vs. the opposite.
7. We are not racing. Conserve your energy, especially if you're embarking on a long hike. You should always be prepared for situations that would require more energy (ex. getting lost). With hiking, it's always a matter of safety.
8. Be cautious. Always be aware of your surroundings. We can't stress this enough. The biggest risk you generally have on an easy hike is stepping in the wrong place. The outdoors are filled with surprises, whether it's a change in the ground, rocks, steeps, or even wildfire, always watch where you are walking.
9. Don't disrupt nature. Hiking is intended to enjoy our beautiful outdoors. Always be courteous of wildlife and Mother Nature. That includes not taking something you didn't come with (souvenirs) and not feeding wildlife with food meant for humans. Also remember, we want to leave no trace behind that we were there... circle of life, folks.
10. Simple etiquette. Simple hello when you pass another hiker is fine. If you're on a longer trail, it's fair to stop and discuss weather conditions, etc. If you don't feel comfortable, it's perfectly fine to not engage. A hiker going uphill has the right of way. It's also common to yield for bikes. Also, a few trails require a permit. Always contact your park office if unclear.
Hiking is a typically low-impact activity but has great physical and mental rewards. Always remember to do your research beforehand, have fun, and be safe! Spread the word on social about your hike, too! Use common hashtags like #hike #outdoors and our own personal one, #getoutthereanddosomething.

]]>Press Release – Costa Sunglasses will celebrate 35 years of providing anglers and outdoor enthusiasts with the best sunglasses on the planet by joining forces with the Surfrider Foundation, and hosting beach cleanups in 35 locations throughout the U.S. in 2018.
“We were born on the water, so it makes sense for us to celebrate this milestone protecting what we love,” said Holly Rush. “Since 1983, Costa has been committed to conservation and the preservation of our most precious assets—our oceans and waterways. Our team was excited to kick-off our 35th Anniversary with a beach cleanup on International Coastal Cleanup Day right here in our hometown of Daytona Beach where 120 people gathered together to collect and properly discard of more than 150 pounds of trash.”
The 2018 collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation expands upon Costa's commitment to Kick Plastic, a campaign that launched in 2014. The Kick Plastic idea stemmed from the Costa team seeing an increasing amount of plastic pollution in our waterways and oceans. As an organization committed to conservation, it became shockingly clear that something needed to be done to fight back against unnecessary single-use plastic pollution.
In 2016 the Kick Plastic initiative grew to include a Guide & Outfitter Program. To date, the program has helped to eliminate more than one million single-use plastic water bottles from guide boats and outfitters throughout North America. The Kick Plastic initiative along with Costa's launch of the new Untangled Collection, sunglass frames made entirely from recycled fishing nets, represent the company’s next step in finding impactful, sustainable ways to help eliminate plastic pollution from our oceans and waterways.
“We are grateful that Costa has decided to celebrate its 35th anniversary through a series of joint beach cleanups across the country,” said Dr. Chad Nelsen, CEO of the Surfrider Foundation. “Beach cleanups not only clean our beaches but they also raise awareness about the plastic pollution challenges we face. Costa’s support underscores their commitment to support clean water and healthy beaches.”
“With about 8 million metric tons of plastic entering the ocean annually, or the equivalent of a garbage truck of plastic dumped in the ocean every minute, we have no other choice but to jump in and make a difference. Small changes add up, whether it’s reducing our single-use plastic consumption, participating in a beach cleanup or spreading the word and building awareness, we can kick this habit and help clean up our oceans and waterways,” said Rush.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the Costa x Surfrider beach cleanups throughout the year, which will take place between October 1 and December 31, 2018. For details about specific locations and times, visit costadelmar.com/35years.

]]>Oakley Prizm™ lens technology has turned eyewear into vital equipment for sports. It all comes down to enhancing detail in the most precise ways to optimize your visual experience, and the result is game-changing performance. With ordinary sunglass lenses, the world looks dull and flat, but Prizm™ lens technology makes everything look vivid and vibrant. The lenses work to emphasize colors where the eye is most sensitive to detail, which in return, helps to enhance performance and safety.
With conventional sunglass lenses, dull colors mean less contrast, and that makes it more difficult to track a ball in the sky or on the field. By making critical colors more vivid, prizm™ field lenses accentuate the background to enhance contrast.
Styles in this collection: Holbrook, Flak 2.0 XL
Helps you spot grass textures you might otherwise miss. Improves contrast between the cyans and greens of healthy grass and the yellows, oranges and reds of unhealthy grass. By separating shades of green, they help you spot fairway/fringe/rough transitions.
Styles in this collection: Targetline, The Flak family- Flak 2.0, Flak 2.0 XL, Flak Beta
White and yellow lane lines are vivid, and traffic lights are more vibrant. Sky and greenery are color enhanced for a more pleasant riding experience.
Styles in this collection: Jawbreaker, Radar EV Path, Crossrange
Enhances reds and browns. Plants and foliage colors are more vivid. Enhanced vision in both bright light and shadows.
Styles in this collection: Radar EV Path, Field Jacket, Targetline, Jawbreaker
Boosts the precise green and copper hues that make it easier to see hiding spots. Keeps white bright so you can spot the flash of fish and flies on the surafce. Helps you see the shadows of fish - something that can be more useful than trying to spot the fish themselves. Improves color contrast and cuts glare.
Styles in this collection: Mainlink, Crossrange, Straightlink
Keeps white bright so you don’t miss the flash of fish. Darker lens than the shallow water version because you won’t be dealing with the shadows the canopy cover. Enhanced with glare-stopping polarization so you can enjoy full days of fishing, boating and sailing with comfort.
Styles in this collection: Mainlink, Crossrange, Straightlink
Improve comfort in varying light conditions, and they feature premium HD polarized optics that cut glare and keep your eyes comfortable when you’re driving. Dull colors become warm and rich for sharper contrast and a more pleasing visual experience.
Styles in this collection: Holbrook, Twoface, Turbine, Latch, Mainlink

Here at X-Wear, we carry a wide-range of Oakley sunglasses, from everyday wear to performance. A frequent question we see online and in-store is
Today, we’re breaking down those two styles, as well as it’s modern relative, the Crankshaft.
In 2005, Oakley did a complete 180 in design and traded soft curved designs for straight edges and hard lines. The Gascan style was born and it was Oakley’s first high-wrap lifestyle shade. The Oakley logo also shifted with these iconic shades, to a square “O” design that you see on most styles today.
Lens width: 60 millimeters
Lens height: 35 millimeters
Bridge: 15 millimeters
Arm: 128 millimeters
In 2009, the world was introduced to Gascan’s big brother, Fuel Cell. The big difference between the two? Size. The Fuel Cell is a great option for someone who wants the style of Gascan, but needs a larger frame. Fuel Cell also provides slightly more curvature and the bridge dips out instead of being flat.
Lens width: 60 millimeters
Lens height: 38 millimeters
Bridge: 19 millimeters
Arm: 130 millimeters
Just when we thought we were done, enter the younger sibling, Crankshaft. The Crankshaft is a combination of the Gascan and Fuel Cell designs but turned up a notch. Crankshaft is considered the cleaner, more modern approach to the lifestyle shades collection by Oakley.
Lens width: 60 millimeters
Lens height: 37 millimeters
Bridge: 19 millimeters
Arm: 132 millimeters
These three styles should be worn as an everyday lifestyle pair of shades. For the highly active folks, there are plenty of performance styles that Oakley sells with grips and special lens technology. We recommend coming in and trying on different frames to see which ones agree with your look the best. Cape Cod locals can find us at two locations: Board Stiff 193 Main St, Falmouth, MA 02540 and Board Stiff Provincetown 273 Commercial St, Provincetown, MA 02657.

The fresh crisp air of the great outdoors. Is there anything better? We have the luxury of living in a country with 58 national parks and more than 6,000 state parks. That’s a whole lot of trails to choose from and places to visit. To ease your bucket list planning, we’re sharing our top 5 favorite spots that are sure to take your breath away.
Yosemite National Park features nearly 1,200 square miles of pure nature bliss: from the towering waterfalls to the famous Sequoia trees. The park’s signature hiking experience is the Mist Trail, which is a short, yet challenging journey that offers amazing up-close views of two waterfalls- Vernal and Nevada.
The trail begins at 4,000 feet in elevation, and you’ll be climbing 1,000 feet to the top of Vernal Fall, and then 1,900 feet to the top of Nevada Fall, if you decide to continue on. Make sure to prepare for slippery footing and a tremendous amount of waterfall spray in spring and early summer months.

]]>"With 559 miles of coastline, including the 40-mile Cape Cod National Seashore, Cape Cod is full of this-is-the-life beaches." -Boston.com
Although almost any beach or waterway can be used for SUP, certain conditions do make the experience more enjoyable. If you live on Cape Cod or are visiting for the first time, there are plenty of places to get your SUP on. But what are the best? Well, we have you covered. Here’s our top ten SUP spots for the summer, in no particular order:
Located on North Pamet Road in Truro, Ballston Beach’s golden dunes overlook the vast Atlantic Ocean. This magical beach is a sight to see year round and has an ever-changing landscape. Also, Cape Cod Magazine just voted Ballston the #1 beach on Cape Cod. Convinced now?
S Pamet Rd, Truro, MA
Located roughly 15 minutes from our Board Stiff store in Falmouth (193 Main St.), this beach is calm, quiet and relatively secluded. It’s perfect for SUP beginners – and those more experienced – as it provides scenic views of North Falmouth, and its beautiful coastline and homes.
239 County Rd, North Falmouth, MA
This public beach on Cape Cod Bay is renowned for its beautiful sunsets, making it ideal for those wanting to SUP against a picturesque backdrop.
Skaket Beach Road, Orleans, MA
Beautiful beach on the Bay side that has calm waters and plenty of space to relax. Clean with nice sand and small waves, perfect for SUPing. Note that in-season, you will need a parking permit to access this beach. It's worth it, though!
Cold Storage Road, East Dennis, MA
With a popular boardwalk leading over the marsh to the beach, getting there is half the fun. The other half is on the water, where those on a SUP will have views of a clay reef and the sea life below. Town Beach is also a prime spot for scuba divers thanks to a ship wreck not far from the shore.
Town Neck Rd, Sandwich, MA
Plenty of room for activities both in the water and on the sand. This beach provides great views of Nantucket Sound. Say hi to your kayaking friends as you pass them with your board, as this beach is frequented by kayakers. Harding is also a very family-friendly beach.
Hardings Beach Rd, Chatham, MA
Cape Cod’s longest beach offers first-rate views of the bay and is another calm location from which to launch your SUP and enjoy the ride.
Sandy Neck Road, West Barnstable, MA
A popular beach in Barnstable, Craigville comes alive in the summertime with families, teens, and young adults... and now, paddle boards.
997 Craigville Beach Rd, Centerville, MA
One of the more calm beaches in Provincetown (right near our other Board Stiff store at 294 Commercial St.), this is another must-see for those searching for the perfect Cape sunset. And with the opportunity to spot seals and whales breaching, splashing and playing in the distance, those on a SUP will have the ideal perch to observe nature in all its glory.
Province Lands Rd, Provincetown, MA
Another Provincetown location, this beach has a beautiful landscape but with some rougher waters. Named for the powerful racing cross current - it's a haven for everyone, from sun lovers to nature buffs. This beach is for those SUP enthusiasts who are ready to take it to the next level.
Race Point Rd, Provincetown, MA
]]>Alright, so workout aside, paddle boarding is just a beautiful sport. Floating on water while enjoying the sunshine and outdoors is an excellent way to relieve stress and clear your head. Also, SUP Yoga is one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Changing your workouts is important for the overall health of your body. One day a run, one day weight lifting, another day paddle boarding. Change is good!
Balance and stability tend to decrease as we age. Ironically, that’s just when we need it the most. SUP is virtually an entire balance workout from the moment you step on the board until the moment you get off. Keep training your mind and body… you’ll need it as the years go on!
All you really need is a board and a paddle to get going! We always recommend wearing a life preserver and board leash, though. Bringing a whistle along can also be crucial if you need to call for attention. Besides that, the water is free! Who needs expensive monthly memberships when you could enjoy the beautiful ocean anytime at no cost?
A few months ago, we provided you with 7 Tips For New Runners. Today, we’re revisiting some of those tips and giving you a few bonus ones to get you motivated for summer and beyond. The hardest part is taking the first step, right? Let’s do it together… who’s ready?
Probably one of the most important tips is investing in a great pair of running shoes. When choosing new running shoes, you’ll need to make sure the shoe fits properly from heel to toe. Check for wiggle room, shoe weight and arch support. Also, feet swell during the day, so it’s best to buy running shoes in the evening. Click here for a great article on how to buy the right running shoes.
Your running socks act as a cushion between yourself and the pavement and can seriously reduce stress to your feet and joints. Socks made from a synthetic material will wick moisture away from your feet and control temperature well. In this case, cheap vs expensive socks does matter. Leave the cotton ones at home and grab yourself a pair a pair of wool, spandex, or nylon blended that will keep you cool and stink-free.
According to a Runner’s World survey in 2016, 61 percent of runners are for going commando, while 39 percent can’t imagine running without some undies underneath. If you do decide to wear something, make sure it’s non-cotton. So, if you're choosing where to invest, get a few pairs of quick-dry undies and you'll be cooler in summer, warmer in winter, and less likely to chafe year round. Find the best pairs here.
Wear a pair of lightweight sunglasses designed for sports activities. The American Optometric Association recommends sunglass lenses that block out 99 to 100 percent of both UVA and UVB rays for the best eye protection. Our brand choice for running (and most outdoor activities) is Oakley. Check out their latest lightweight styles here.
There’s no need to jump right into it and try to run 30 minutes straight without stopping. Try alternating walking and running, and take breaks when needed. Pace yourself and know your limits. Try to increase your run (speed or length) each time and gradually build up. Remember, you’re not trying to set any PRs right out of the gate, but always strive to do your best.
There’s nothing better to keep you motivated than a running app. Try the Nike+ Run Club if you usually listen to music while you run. They offer a bunch of meditation-focused guided running tracks, helping you focus on the experience, instead of performance. The Couch to 5K apps (multiple options) coach you through nine weeks of running to prepare you for a 5K, even if you have no prior experience. This app is great for those who are goal-driven and enjoy feedback. Map My Run is a great app to automatically store your running routes, distance, and pace. It’ll also give you audio feedback during your run, perfect for pushing yourself to go further.
The quickest way to make running terrible is to try to go all out all the time. It'll make you tired and out of breath and probably feel totally defeated. Run at a pace that allows you to carry a conversation with someone. We recommend starting off with a running partner who can keep you motivated and makes the run more entertaining. You'll be psyched to notice how much easier running will start to feel once you've been doing it regularly for a few weeks. Once you've built a baseline of fitness and mileage, you can work on running farther and faster.
Staying hydrated with any outdoor activity is crucial. From Runner’s World, drink approximately 1 oz per every 10 lb of body weight 4 hours before running, and if profuse sweating is expected, drink ~0.6 oz per every 10 lb of body weight 2 hours before a run. Give yourself time to use the bathroom before you head out. If you're looking for a general rule of thumb for fluid consumption during your runs: You should take in 4 to 6 ounces of fluid every 20 minutes. Don't forget to rehydrate with water or a sports drink after your run to avoid dehydration. Click here for some great water bottle options from Avex.
There’s no doubt that music can sometimes make running feel easier, especially if you have a rocking playlist. Spotify has some of the best running playlists for every type of runner. Music also depends on the person. Some of us love loud energetic dance music to help us push the limit, while others prefer calming music to put them in-tune with their surroundings. After a few runs, you’ll know which playlists are your go-to. We also recommend finding a good audiobook or podcast. If you do have headphones in though, always be cautious of your surroundings. You’ll want to be able to hear traffic, fellow pedestrians, or any hazards that might harm you. Play your tunes at a safe volume.
You put all this time and effort into running and now what? Well for starters, you should feel better than you ever have before. The cardiovascular benefits partnered with the way running can clear your head and boost endorphins makes it a great sport to get involved with. Celebrate your progress by signing up for a fun run. There are so many that involve costumes, paint/color spraying, and more. Most end in a party or having an ice-cold adult beverage.
What are you waiting for? Get started today!
]]>Established by The Vision Council, National Sunglasses Day on June 27 serves as an annual reminder to protect your eyes before heading outdoors for that “summer fun.” Through a survey about eye health, The Vision Council reported that American adults were concerned most about vision loss, but shockingly 27% percent reported that they don’t typically wear sunglasses. Crazy right? We’re all about being active outdoors, and skin and eye protection go hand-in-hand while enjoying Mother Nature’s offerings.
The American Optometric Association recommends choosing lenses that block out 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays. It's important to match lenses color and keep the surfaces smooth and distortion-free. Depending on the outdoor activity, there are plenty of options when choosing protective eyewear. Polarized lenses are the best option and help reflect glare. Gray lenses provide proper color recognition. Blue-blocking lenses are a great choice for distinguishing long-distance objects or when boating, hunting or skiing. Photochromic lenses adjust for the amount of light.
Don’t forget that sunglasses are also a year-round necessity. The sun’s UV rays are always present, even when it’s cloudy out. The Vision Council reports that early afternoon is a common time for American adults to be outdoors, which also happens to be when the sun’s UV rays are at their highest. Just as UV and UVB radiation can affect the skin, the sun can be equally damaging to your optical health. Overexposure can unfortunately lead to cancer of the eyelids, cataracts or macular degeneration.
Taking the whole family on a trip this summer? Remember to protect your children’s eyes, too. Young eyes are especially susceptible to UV damage, yet most American adults report that they don’t make their kids wear shades. From babiators to Ray-Ban Juniors, there’s a trendy style for every child to wear and you’ll have peace of mind knowing that their eyes are getting coverage (don’t forget sunscreen, too!)
There's no better view than being on top of a mountain and looking out, or being on the ocean and staring out to the horizon. While you’re enjoying the beauty of this earth, whether it’s through hiking, fishing, kayaking, skiing, sledding, and more, make sure you’re giving your eyes the protection they need and deserve. If we had to pick, our top 4 sunglasses brands for outdoor sports and activities would be:
Don’t forget to visit us at x-wear.com for all your sunglass and outdoor needs and #GetOutThereAndDoSomething fun this summer!

]]>Oakley was founded in 1975 by James Jannard with an initial investment of only $300, yes $300. Jannard began selling motorcycle grips with a trademarked orbicular design at motocross events. Oakley went on to create different apparel and accessory items for the motocross community before diving into eyewear. In the early 1980s, Oakley released a pair of goggles called the O-Frame followed by Factory Pilot Eyeshades in 1984. The Oakley Frogskin, their first regular sunglasses style, grew quickly to popularity in the mid to late 80s and is still an Oakley staple today.
The rest, is indeed history. In 1995, Oakley went public through an IPO of $230 million. Shortly after in 2001, Oakley acquired Iacon, Inc., mall-based sunglass specialty store conglomerate to directly compete with losing one of its principal distributors, Sunglass Hut. In 2007, Luxottica purchased Oakley for $2.1 billion, and still owns the company today. Luxottica may not be the most familiar name to most, but their brands are... Sunglass Hat, Persol, Warby Parker, LensCrafters, Oliver Peoples, and Ray-Ban to name a few.
Oakley is now one of the leading product design and sport performance brands in the world, loved by everyone from the average fisherman to world-class athletes. To this day, the company holds more than 600 patents for sunglasses and general eyewear. Oakley has positioned itself as the innovator of lens technologies, and has extended its brand into apparel and accessories that appeal to all active consumers.
Oakley’s reputation for producing some of the world’s most popular styles in performance and lifestyle eyewear is well-documented. It is also a large reason why many world class athletes trust the Oakley brand when choosing their sunglasses for competition. For the finest in high-quality performance and lifestyle sunglasses, Oakley is sure to have the pair to fulfill your every need.

]]>We couldn’t think of a better brand to highlight this week than So. Cal native Nixon. In fact, we're coincidentally wearing our Sentry SS, pictured above.
Founded by Andy Laats and Chad DiNenna in 1998, Nixon’s focus is on the youth lifestyle market. Starting with $1 million from angel-investors, Nixon released its first catalog of seven watch models through 200 retailers (mainly surf, skate and snow shops.) The brand’s popularity quickly grew and was soon featured in fashion stores such as Barneys New York and Fred Segal.
Andy and Chad knew that in order to be successful, they would need feedback on their brand. Not just any feedback though, they enlisted legendary skateboard Tony Hawk among other professional athletes to give them advice. This became their “secret sauce” and they figured if it was good enough for Tony Hawk, it would be good enough for every customer.
In 2006, Nixon was sold to Billabong but in a reverse ownership deal, Laats and DiNenna purchased back the company in 2012. The brand is now owned by the founders, Trilantic Capital Partners and Billabong, and has former prAna chief Scott Kerslake as the new CEO.
Nixon’s success is due in part that the owners knew their market because they were their own best customers. They listened to their target market, hired rockstars to promote their brand, and never changed their values even as their business skyrocketed. Today, Nixon sells 90 watch models ranging from super affordable to luxurious in over 80 countries worldwide. They’ve even expanded their line to include headphones, wallets and more accessories.
“It started as a frustration at a lack of quality watches that simultaneously do the talking for you and has since grown into a group of athletes, rock stars, retailers, and dedicated loyalists that bring Nixon products to market. Fueled by adventures far and wide and often sometimes by those that happen just down the street we deliver products that meet your needs in various high-stress work and play environments.” -Nixon.com

#GetOutThereAndDoSomething
Starting off at trade shows back in 2010, Cocoa Beach, Florida based company Sun Bum quickly grew to stardom. What sets them apart? They produce high quality sun care products that are loved by everyone from surfers to beauty bloggers to high-end resort guests. Growing from being popular in local surf shops to being the #2 brand in all Ulta stores, Sun Bum quickly became an iconic lifestyle brand.
For the Sun Bum team, they didn’t care about being the biggest brand and making the most money. They truly care about keeping people, especially children, safe from harmful UV rays. Their sunscreens are tested, approved and recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation and are cruelty-free. Most products are also vegan and gluten-free (check their website for full details.) Also, it doesn’t matter how popular the name becomes, the Sun Bum team still has that close knit ‘everyone’s welcomed’ vibe that sets them apart from other big brands in sun care.
Check out this video and see why we adore Sun Bum:
We love our fun in the sun days, but nothing is more important than protecting yourself and the ones you love from sun damage. We're listing our favorite Sun Bum products to get you all set for summer 2018 rays. If you want to grab some, all pictures on this blog are clickable links. Enjoy!
Sun Bum 3 In 1 Leave In 4 OZ - $14.99 USD
Protects, detangles, and conditions your hair while enhancing and restoring its natural body. It controls frizz, prevents split ends, slows color fading and will leave your hair silky-smooth and shiny. It is, by far, the most "borrowed" item from the Sun Bum beach house.
Sun Bum Shampoo 10 OZ- $17.99 USD
Cleanses out saltwater, chlorine, and environmental pollutants while delivering deep nutrition, smoothing, and shine. Their special blend restores lost moisture, repairs the damage, and provides unmatched humidity-resistant frizz control. It's gonna be your new favorite.
Sun Bum Conditioner 10 OZ- $17.99 USD
Deeply hydrates and awakens hair, making it highly responsive and manageable. This luxurious concoction locks in hair color and repairs strands from within, while powerful antioxidants provide UV protection to help prevent color fade and damage. We love it because it makes our hair super smooth, shiny, and happy.
Sun Bum Face Stick SPF 30 .45 OZ- $9.99 USD
Sun Bum’s Broad Spectrum UVA/UVB protection with Vitamin E is available in a convenient and easy to use Face Stick that helps when you're dealing with squirming kids, sandy hands, or just need a quick swipe of sunscreen across your face. We love this little fella for its small size… keep in your bag or pocket and make it an everyday necessity for on-the-go touchups.
Sun Bum Lip Balm .15 OZ- $3.99 USD
Best seller alert! Their smooth SPF 30 sunscreen lip balm with added Aloe and Vitamin E will protect and moisturize your kisser all day long... just try not to lick it off. Relieves the drying effects of sun, wind and sea and restores chapped lips. Banana flavor is pictured above, but we’re going with pomegranate.
This moisturizing sunscreen formula will protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays while enriching your skin with Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps to neutralize free radicals, which are the main cause of premature skin aging. This sunscreen has a lot of loyal fans. Benefits aside, how great does the packaging look? We can’t get enough of the wood grain look and their famous ape logo dead center.
Sun Bum Lotion SPF 15 8 OZ- $15.99 USD
Sun Bum Lotion SPF 30 8 OZ- $15.99 USD
Sun Bum Lotion SPF 50 8 OZ- $15.99 USD

]]>By now, most of us have handled or been in front of a GoPro camera. GoPros are all about taking you into a moment in time. Known for action shots, storytelling, and time-lapses, GoPros are used by adventurers and vloggers alike. We’ve been playing around with our HERO5 Black lately and wanted to share what we love about our action camera go-to.
One of the coolest features of the HERO5 and beyond is the voice-controlled digital assistant. Chances are if you’re using a GoPro, you’ll need both hands free during your shot. Being able to quickly say things like “GoPro, start recording” or “GoPro, turn off” saves you time in the moment and during post-production editing. When you’re in the moment, voice control is the easiest way to control your camera and supports seven languages. Hands-free, fun, liberating.
Gone is the waterproof cases of years past. HERO5 and beyond have waterproof casings meaning all you have to do is grab and go. Enjoy up to 33ft (10M) water submersion, letting you capture all the mysteries that lie beneath the sea. We love the spontaneity that allows us to take our GoPro wherever we are.
One of our favorite features, image stabilization, gives you that professional look to every single video you capture. Have the freedom of capturing the world as you see it, without the vibrations and jerkiness you get when filming on the move. Videos appear to be more dreamlike, letting you watch it back and experience the moment just as you remember.
We'll be the first to admit, GoPros are not known for having the best audio recording quality. In the past couple years though, that’s changed. If you have a HERO5 or newer, you can enjoy crisp sound without muffling. Three microphones help determine which is best to use in any particular moment, giving you a superb audio experience that matches the high definition video recording.
Import and enjoy your GoPro videos with Quik Desktop and create masterpieces with just a few clicks. When you subscribe to GoPro Plus, GoPro's subscription service, you can have ease of mind knowing your GoPro footage is being automatically uploaded to the cloud. Also, make sure you download the latest version of the GoPro app for your mobile device. Create a QuikStory by doing quick video edits and adding music or text to your footage, then share instantly with your friends for the ultimate on-the-go moments. The app also lets you control your GoPro, which lets you mount your camera practically anywhere and be a distance away.
We think the coolest part of having a GoPro is the accessories you can buy, giving you the freedom to experience and share moments anywhere and everywhere. Here are our top three favorite mounts:
GoPro 3-Way Mount Tripod - $69.99
This ultra versatile mount can be used three main ways: as a camera grip, extension arm or tripod. The folding arm is perfect for POV or follow-cam footage, and makes it easy to capture selfies without the mount appearing in the shot. When detached from the arm, the handle doubles as a camera grip. Get yours here.
GoPro Chesty GCHM30-001 Chest Mount - $39.99
Fully adjustable to fit all sizes, the Chesty makes it easy to capture immersive video and photos from your chest. It's perfect for skiing, mountain biking, motocross, paddle sports or any activity where you want to get a lower-than-the-helmet view of the action. Get yours here.
