Question: Are Ray-Bans made in China or Italy?
You may be curious why we’re asking this question. As a retailer of sunglasses, one of the most common misconceptions we hear from consumers are that Ray-Bans made in China are fake. This is one of those myths, propelled primarily by two things:
- Luxottica, the primary owner of most brands of sunglasses including Ray-Bans, makes some of its products in Italy where it has six manufacturing centers. Because of this, people have presumed that all Ray-Bans are made in Italy (they’re not; keep reading).
- The Internet. Yes, we love the Internet, but it’s also great at propelling myths. This is why there are fact checking sites to dispel some of those myths that get shared by one person, then another and then another, before people start labeling them as the truth. As a retailer, we often see the Ray-Ban myth alive and well in the comment sections on websites like Amazon where consumers raise concerns about the “Made in China” insignia.
At X-Wear, we believe in truth (sort of like Superman). And that’s why we want to dispel the myth, once and for all, that real Ray-Bans are NOT made in China.
In fact, they are made in China. Here’s proof: Luxottica (that company mentioned above), also has production facilities in China, Brazil and the United States. You can read more about this on Luxottica’s own website (scroll to the bottom for a list of manufacturing plant locations).
Among the brands that Luxottica makes in China are Ray-Bans, including the following models: 3364, 3379, 3267, 3386, 8301, 3484, 3119, 3364, 3387, 8310, 4125F, 2168F and 3016. This is not an all-inclusive list as there are other Ray-Ban models that are also made in China.
We understand that as consumers, you should always be concerned about the quality of sunglasses you are buying. There are knock-off sunglasses of almost every brand, but you can rest assured that the ones we sell online at X-Wear and in our stores on Cape Cod, Boston and Newport are always original.
You can confidently shop our store knowing that the Ray-Bans you are buying are actual Ray-Bans, whether they are made in Italy or made in China.
And for those shopping for a new pair for yourself (or a loved one… hint: the holidays are coming!), we are offering a 20 percent discount on all Ray-Bans through the end of October. Just use the code RB2015 when checking out.
